Story writing has a formula. To make the writing process easier, use “Who”, “What” and “Why” to structure the story from beginning to end.

Remember this formula:

A great story need an interesting character and a setting. Will the main character be a child, an adult, or even an animal? Will the story be set in the local park or forest?  Let your kid’s imagination run wild. Expand the story ideas and set the opening scene.

Then, create an outline by completing a story planner.

  • First……
  • Then……
  • Next……
  • Finally……

Drama and role play is an excellent way to engage children’s thoughts and ideas and help them internalise a story. Let them to act out parts in character, make story maps and build story settings to really bring fictional tales to life. If your child is a big fantasy fan and loves stories about dragons, wizards and monsters, encourage them to create their own magical land.
