A sailing boat is a big boat with sails which catch the wind. The wind pushes the boat along. All the sailboats have these basic components.
The hull is the shell of the boat, keeps the water out. Stern is the back of the boat, which stops water coming in. A rudder is a primary control surface used to steer a boat. The mainsail is the larger sail that captures the bulk of the wind power necessary to propel the sailboat whereby jib is smaller sail that adds additional power for the mainsail. A long upright pole hoist the sail up is called mast.
Sailing today is for recreation or sport. Sailing can be very challenging due to the changeable and often harsh conditions experienced at sea.
