Yeast is a single-cell organism. There are more than 1,500 species of yeast. Each one is a type of fungus. Yeast needs food, warm temperature, and moisture to thrive. Yeasts grow well wherever there is sugar.

What can it do?

Bread Making
Yeast is an essential ingredient in baking bread. When baking yeast-leavened bread, the yeast converts sugar in flour and releases carbon dioxide. This process is called fermentation. The carbon dioxide gas makes the dough rise.

Brewing Beer
Yeast is also the main driver of quality beer making. Yeast ferment malt sugars, creating carbon dioxide and alcohol as by-products. The carbon dioxide gas makes beer bubbly.

Earth-Friendly Garden Pest Control
Yeasts play a role in soil aggregate formation, improving soil structure. Yeasts are food for many bacteria, insects, and other soil predators.

Nutritional
Yeast-rich foods can provide proteins and B vitamins. It is essential in keeping the digestive system healthy and in balance since yeast is present in the bacteria in your gut.
